Christ Church

The clock tower of Christ Church is a well-known landmark in the centre of Folkestone.  The text carved into the stonework round the clock warns passers-by to

"TRIFLE NOT THY TIME IS SHORT"

The church was consecrated on 27th July 1850 and destroyed by a German bomb on 17th May 1942.

The "PUBLIC RECORD" plaque (below) on the north side of the tower commemorates

"The Volunteers from Folkestone
and District who Served in
the South African War
1899-1902"

Top centre is the Borough of Folkestone ship emblem; left is an Infantryman; right is the Kent "Invicta" horse emblem

The first name on the list is Lieut. Col. The Earl of Radnor.
